Are you ready for Southern Gospel Music from Southern Sweden? Who knew?!

June 14-27 the “Swedish Gospel Sound” will make their first concert tour in the US.  Twenty-six years ago seven men from the Swedish version of the Evangelical Covenant Church came together to begin singing and playing together.

Today the “Swedish Gospel Sound” is very popular all over Sweden. They have sung in packed churches, jazz festivals, at huge outdoor concerts, and they have appeared on Swedish Television. They are famous for their sound: Southern Gospel Quartet Music!

The group’s members include: Dan-Inge Olsson, 54, Covenant pastor, tenor singer, composer, arranger Stig Sjöberg, 64, singer, cornet player, former advertising company owner Lars-Åke Martinsson, 53, singer, bass guitar player, company supervisor Sven-Åke Jeppsson, 61, singer, guitar and banjo player, Headmaster Jonathan Martinsson, 20, drummer, University student

The members of the Swedish Gospel Sound love Jesus and their concerts shows it in the songs they sing and the testimonies they share.

The Swedish Gospel Sound will present concerts which are fun and of excellent quality. Their witness is unmistakable.

All offerings received during their tour will benefit Covenant pastors and their spouses, making it possible for them to attend Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat, a new ministry of restoration and hope. www.ShepherdsCanyonRetreat.org.

August 29, 2010          “Reunion” Weekend at FLC!

Many of our faith journeys have been shaped by the leaders God has sent to Fremont to serve among us.  On this weekend we’ll invite former pastors and others who have belonged to First Lutheran to return to Fremont for an old fashioned “basket dinner” and just simply time to renew connections and enjoy a celebration.  Pastor Dan Hansen, a son of the congregation, will grace us with his preaching on this day.

September 12, 2010              “Rally Sunday” Guest Artist “Agape*”

Now is the time to look to the future!  Dave Scherer has inspired youth from Brooklyn to Bosnia with his relational ministry "Hip Hop Outreach."  Combining rapping, dancing, storytelling and his fluency in Spanish -- his energy is contagious, and his stories of faith transcend differences.  Even those who do not normally enjoy hip-hop, find themselves dancing to his music and captivated by his unique presentation of the Gospel.   Agape* will present the message in worship, and present a special outreach concert during his trip to Fremont to help celebrate the 125th!

November 7, 2010       One Festival Worship at Midland

We will close our formal celebration of this Anniversary year by looking to the future with courage and hope.  In cooperation with Midland Lutheran College, we will be hosting ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark S. Hanson who will serve as our preacher and teacher.

  • 10 a.m. Worship, Brunch Banquet follow

Janice Hansen and Esther Freund reminisce at

the November Adult Study presentation about

days when the Danish heritage of First Lutheran

was more evident.  Special events for learning our

history as well as planning for the future are

scheduled throughout 2010.

Our thanks to Dan Wright for designing a logo to help us focus our celebrations.

Special commemorative ornaments featuring this logo are available to enhance your Christmas celebrations at a cost of $8.  Stop by the front office and pick one up!
