Approaching First Lutheran Church on a beautiful day in November 2009:  Veteran’s Day, when flags line Military Avenue each year.   At 2 a.m. on November 11th, 1918, then Pastor of First Lutheran M.Th. Jensen rang out the then newly cast church bell to announce the eagerly anticipated news throughout town that the great war had ended.  Now the anniversary of this Armistice honors all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, and prayers for peace and an end to all conflict continue today.   (See "New Song to the Lord:  A History of First Lutheran Church, Fremont, Nebraska," written in 1985 by Midland Professor William E. Christensen.)
