OUTREACH AND SERVICE GROUPS

Our church has several service groups, please contact our church office (402-721-2959) for more information about any of our ministries listed below:

First Lutheran Cancer Fighters

Join our team of supporters of cancer treatment research with the goal of ending cancer.  Our annual spaghetti dinner (during the season of Lent) raises money for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team.  We also sell flowers to raise money.  Call our church office for more information.

The Resurrection Project

This ministry serves members of our church and community through various home improvement projects.  This involves anything from landscape cleanup to minor repair projects for the elderly or others in need.  More information about The Resurrection Project can be found here.

Care Corps Meal

First Lutheran is committed to providing a meal to Care Corps, Inc., Fremont’s shelter for the homeless, on the third Tuesday of each month.  The meals are planned and specific food items are requested on a Sunday bulletin insert. All First Lutheran groups and families are encouraged to participate in this food ministry to the homeless of our community. Sign up sheets are at the "Ministry Center" just outside our sanctuary.

The Quilters

The Quilters meet to cut, sew squares together, layout and tie, and finish quilts on the third Wednesday of the month at 9:30 am  They break for a pot-luck lunch and continue in the afternoon.  Anyone is welcome for any length of time that they can stay and help.  Quilt squares are available at the Ministry Center for anyone to take home to sew together a quilt top.

Funeral Team

Have you signed up to serve on a funeral team?  You can help by baking cakes or by helping to serve the day of the funeral.  This is a great way to show that we are a caring congregation.

Lutheran World Relief

Lutheran World Relief seeks lasting solutions to poverty and injustice and in doing so, compels U.S. Lutherans to put their faith into action.  First Lutheran Women help coordinate donations of health kits, school kits, sewing kits and layettes during the year.  First Lutheran Quilters donate many of their quilts each year to Lutheran World Relief.

Mowo Lutheran Parish, Tanzania

Since 2002, First Lutheran has been raising funds to construct a kindergarten for Mowo Lutheran Parish located on the side of Mount Kilamanjaro in Tanzania.  The first floor of the school is complete and being used by students.  First Lutheran has sponsored several women of the village to become teachers.  Members of First Lutheran have visited Mowo twice filling suitcases with school supplies and tools for the people at Mowo.  Special offerings and events support this ministry.

Library Committee

The church library is an important teaching tool, available for individuals, classes, and the congregation.  The Library Committee serves in an on-going effort to update, highlight, and make the library in the Heritage Room of First Lutheran more user friendly.  The library is supported by the budget, memorials, and free-will gifts.  The library committee meets the first Thursday of every month to replace books to shelves, pursue past due books and DVDs, catalogue new items, and maintain card files and a computer listing.  If you would like to be involved or have any questions or suggestions, please contact us or drop a note in the depository.

Health Cabinet

Our Health Cabinet meets every 3 months to discuss church clinical ministry programs (H1N1 clinics, blood drives, blood pressure checks, etc.).  We have a strong team full of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals.  Contact our church office for more information!

Habitat For Humanity

First Lutheran members regularly volunteer with the Fremont area Habitat for Humanity organization.  For more information about how to contribute or volunteer, please contact the church office.

Operation Shield

The mission of Operation Shield is to provide Christian support to those serving in the military as well as to their families. Operation Shield (Support & Hope In Everlasting Love & Devotion) gets its name from 2 Samuel 22:3:  My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the strength of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior.

The group maintains a bulletin board with photos of those serving as a constant reminder to pray for strength and safe return of our troops.  Regularly, care packages and personal prayers written by congregation members are sent to those serving abroad as well as those in the US.  In addition, special recognition is given to veterans of the armed services.  If you know of anyone serving who could be included or if you would like to participate in the activities of Operation Shield, please contact the church office.
