Bible Study Opportunities:

  • Second Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. – Any woman is welcome to meet with the ladies of Lydia for Bible study and fellowship.  They have a light refreshment and coffee prior to their Bible study session.  In June this group began a study of John 3:16 by Max Lucado and this study continues

  • Second Thursday at 9:00 a.m. – This is the time Ruth Bible study group also has the coffee pot on and serves some refreshments.  Their Bible study follows.  If you are interested in studying with this group you are welcome to do so at any time.  This group will continue a more in-depth study of Romans.

  • Second Thursday at 7:00 p.m. – Faith Bible study/fellowship group will meet this month in the Heritage Room.   This group of women is very diverse in age and interests.  Any women that would like to participate with this group of women would be welcomed with open arms and hearts.  This group will be studying the Summer Session Bible Study from the Lutheran Woman Today on prayer.

“Bad Girls of the Bible” study will be on Monday, July 19th at 7:00 p.m.   We will continue to meet on Mondays. The July study will continue with the study of Sapphira.  This study is based on the fourth and fifth chapters of the Book of Acts.  We studied Delilah at the beginning of our study so we are skipping over her to the next chapter which is chapter 6.  This is a new study group and any woman is welcome to participate in this group study.  This could include women that are already studying with another group and would like an additional study.

Friday Morning Bible Study at 9:30 a.m. – This Bible study group is not meeting for the summer months, but will resume a study in the fall.  Watch for start-up date.

Service opportunities:

Lydia Women of First Lutheran Church will be serving morning coffee for

Habitat for Humanity workers on July 20th  at 10:00 am.

Help serve Habitat for Humanity Morning Coffee or Lunch.  This is an opportunity for a group or a couple of individuals to be of service in the community.  Beth Meyer is in charge of making these arrangements.  We will be serving in July and August.  Help is needed for August.  Contact Beth @ 719-1732 if interested in helping.

Prayer Shawl Ministry group– meets the first Tuesday of most months at 9:30.  Most women work independently on prayer shawls or scarves.  When the group meets we attach a prayer and a cross to the completed shawls and determine who will deliver the completed shawls.  Yarn (enough for a shawl) is available for people to knit or crochet a shawl.

Cover Girls (Quilters) – meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 9:30.  They cut, sew squares together, layout and tie, and finish quilts on this day.  They break for a pot-luck lunch and continue in the afternoon.  Anyone is welcome for any length of time they can stay and help.  Quilt squares are available at the Ministry Center for anyone to take home to sew together a quilt top.

Altar Guild – This is a group of women that take care of the things in the worship center. Some of these duties are changing the paraments, taking care of the candles, filling the baptismal font, taking care of the pall and the acolyte robes, and setting up communion.

Second Monday Women – meet at 9:00 on the second Monday of the month, thus the name.  The women clean and stock the kitchen areas around the church.  They are known to rid the refrigerator of out of date food, clean the stainless steel and wipe off and straighten the cupboards.  The pantry gets put in order and we wash any dirty towels.  We have plenty of pleasant conversation as we work and we would welcome more women to help us when they can.

Funeral Team – Have you signed up to serve on a funeral team?  You can help by baking cakes or by helping to serve the day of the funeral.  This is a great way to show that we are a caring congregation.  Men are also welcome on these teams.

Sign up to join the women of First Lutheran Church and their friends for a

salad bar and a different Anita Renfroe video.

"When the Girls Get Together".....we have fun, laughter, and of course, food.  If you enjoyed Anita Renfroe last February, you will NOT want to miss this DVD on Thursday, July 22. If you were teaching, etc. and missed her, now is your chance to just relax, have fun and let the cares of the world drift away.  In this hilarious, insightful look into everyday life, she riffs on family, church life, cruises, fake tans, caffeine, purses, etc.  Because this DVD is 95 minutes long, a salad luncheon will start serving at 11:30 am with DVD starting at 11:45 am.  If you can't stay for the entire presentation, come when you can and leave when you must.  It is topical so you can enjoy good laughs even if you don't see the whole DVD.  Please sign up at Ministry Center if you are able to come so enough salad is prepared. Also sign up if you are in need of a sitter for your children, one will not be available unless you sign up.

First Lutheran Church Women’s Christmas Event

This is for all the women of First Lutheran.  Watch the newsletter for all of the information.  This will be another great event to help celebrate our 125th Anniversary.

Saved to Serve is an opportunity to put your faith into action.

There are still openings for women to help the weekend of the Quilt Auction.  Registration can be sent to Nancy Johnson.

These opportunities are weekend events that include service, Bible study, fellowship, and building relationships.  There are at least two events each year and it all started in 1998.  The cost for the weekend is $39 and that price has remained the same since the inception of STS.  These events begin at 6 pm on the Friday and continue until 1pm on the Sunday.

The second opportunity is going to be held at Camp Carol Joy Holling Conference and Retreat Center and will take place July 30 – August 1.  This is the Nebraska Synod camp by Ashland, NE, and the women attending this event will “deep clean” four housing areas on the weekend of the 22 annual Quilt Auction.  We will spruce up the camp for auction day and for the beginning of the retreat season and still have time to attend part of the Quilt Auction.  We will stay at the Sjogren Center, have time to tour the camp and enjoy the outdoors.  If you cannot attend this event you can donate: decorative pump bottles of antibacterial soap, dish soap such as Dawn or Palmolive, powdered laundry detergent, Kleenex, white kitchen paper towels and household brooms & dust pans.  Cash donation not otherwise specified will be used to purchase new vacuum cleaners.  Registration deadline is June 30, 2010.

Join Beth and others at this opportunity, it will be a great weekend.

Registration forms for this event are at the Ministry Center.
